Au Revoir, White Roses 2

Today is Son No 3's last day at his pre-school for 2008. Next year, he will be promoted to Irises, the class for 6-year-old children.

It was a nice touch when each pupil was presented with a CD-Rom on the last day of school. The CD-Rom contains 267 images of all the key activities that they did the whole year. It is like a year-book. Smart marketing?!

Anyway, I did some collages of the photos (see below). Enjoy!

1 Culture Day - 28/2

2 Visit To The Fire Station - 6/4

3 Animal Show - 29/4

4 Party Day - 22/5

5 Learning About Growth - 5/8

6 Baking Day - 11/8
7 Visit to BreadTown - 14/8
8 Merdeka Day - 29/8

9 Gym Day - 17/9

10 "Our Little Storybook" Concert Day - 1/11

I am quite happy with what the kindergarten has achieved this past year. In my own reading of childhood education, I have come across this metaphor of the "beacon". According to Margaret Mahler, renowned child psychoanalyst, a beacon signifies a fixed light which gives the child the security to move out safely to explore the world and then return safely to harbour. In this aspect, I think Beaconhouse Pre-School has done fairly well in promoting learning through play and exploration and in building self-confidence in children.

Au Revoir, 2008!

I particularly like the shot where he cups his face in rapt attention under 5) Learning about Growth.
